My name is Mat Skate and I own Resultz Gym in Stafford QLD.  I am offering a unique opportunity to PT’s that will allow them to create and conduct a successful business for themselves.

It was 2011 and I was 38 years old when I started my first business in the fitness industry - Boot Camp Enoggera. Prior to that I spent 20 years in the Australian Army, the last 10 of those as a Physical Training Instructor (PTI).  Every 2 or 3 years I was posted to a new location interstate which meant that I had to adapt my skill set to a new environment and was also exposed to a new team of PTI’s.  I didn't realise at the time that this was going to be the most significant professional development I would ever receive.

What I have discovered is that working with a supportive team that are passionate and motivated is fundamental to ensure that you have a practical skill set on how to train clients in a variety of settings whether that be one on one or group training.

Once I left the military and started my Boot Camp business I was extremely confident that my skill set in group training was to a very high standard.

What I didn't realise was how challenging it is to conduct your own business in the fitness industry.

How hard can it be right?  I'm a great trainer and clients are surely going to join my Boot Camps in droves.

How naive was I?

At the end of my first year I almost threw in the towel and was considering getting my old Army job back because it was "familiar and reliable".

Why did I tough it out?

Let's just say my wife provided some tough love….. I think I'll leave it there for now!!

Today, 8 years on I have created an amazing supportive community at Resultz Gym.  We currently have around 200 members and we are only at around 50% capacity.  I purchased Resultz Gym in July 2015 when it was a fitness studio that was not doing well and converted this into a swipe card access gym and we continue to grow whilst our members love the supportive vibe we have created.

The success I have attained has not just fallen in my lap.  I have had to work hard for it and invest in my professional career with coaches and mentors helping me on my journey and learning from some of the best experts in our industry.

Many PT’s in the industry find it challenging to make a living and the majority are only able to conduct their profession on a part-time basis.  One of the contributing factors is the amount of rent PT’s are expected to pay and the lack of support and guidance they receive from the Gym/Studio.
